Blast near Mastung school claims 7 lives, including 5 children

A state of emergency has been imposed in all hospitals, and the Chief Minister of Balochistan has voiced his condemnation of the blast attack that specifically targeted children.

According to a report by police to Geo News on Friday, a Police Mobile was attacked earlier today near the Girls High School located at the Civil Hospital Chowk in Mastung, Balochistan, resulting in the death of seven people, five of whom were schoolchildren, one police personnel and a passer-by.

At first, five people were dead. However, two more fatalities were reported among the… fell ill during the treatment in the hospital as explained by DHQ Medical Superintendent Nisar Ahmad Baloch, who helped raise the number to seven.

Baloch further reported that most of the 30 injured persons currently receiving care at DHQ and Nawab Hospital in Mastung are schoolchildren.

According to Miandad Umrani, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), a motorcycle was used to conceal a remote control bomb.

Blast

The ages of the dead school-going children, both males and females, are parts of the ages between 10 and 13 years, while the injured comprise four policemen.

According to Mastung Deputy Commissioner of Mir Baaz Khan Marri, both hospitals have been put under emergency conditions.

Before this, the police announced that the death toll from the attack, in which the police truck was completely blown up, reached at least 15 people injured.

Other vehicles, including rickshaws, which were located close to the blast site, were also damaged, they noted.

The police had also earlier stated that all those injured were taken to the nearest District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ).

Emergency was also imposed in all the hospitals of Quetta including Civil Hospital, BMC Hospital, and Trauma Centre after the blast occurred, as communicated by the representative of the provincial health department who also said that all the doctors, pharmacists, staff nurses, and other health workers have been called back to hospital.

According to the spokesperson, nine Persons were brought to the Trauma Center situated in Quetta with blast-related injuries out of which three are in critical condition. Some of the injured were admitted to the hospital.

The security situation in the country Pakistan especially in trouble-prone provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has been characterized by numerous waves of terrorism with several innocent civilians and security agents including police, and army men, succumbing to the threat.

There was a blast today in the southern region of the country just a week after five people died and two got injured when some locals were shot at by unidentified attackers at a dam construction site in Panjgur.

Terror threats, especially within the last few months, have also been experienced in Balochistan province as it has been in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa enjoining the two provinces which are reported to have covered 97% of the total 722 deaths that were reported for the first three quarters of this year as reported by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS).

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti has meanwhile denounced the bombing and expressed great sadness at the loss of life. He offered his sympathies to the family members of the slain policeman and the school children.

Bugti said, ‘Terrorists have now targeted the lives of children along with that of laborers, raising his head for recompensing the blood of these innocent zamindars from women and children even.’

Acting President and Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gillani also decried the incident and expressed sorrow at the loss of so many lives.

‘Terrorists are not human and breathe in air to allow such acts. This nation remains behind the armed forces and law enforcement agencies in curbing terrorism,’ he added.

National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz, while condemning the incident, offered his support to the families of the victims.

“Those who carry out attacks against the innocent members and children of the society are the enemies of peace,” said the speaker.

He has expressed disapproval of terrorists targeting innocent children and non-combatants for their evil designs.

Speaker Sadiq paid tribute to the sacrifices rendered by security personnel and police officers in the war against terrorism, stating that these disgraceful actions by evil forces will not undermine the country’s determination in the fight against terrorism.

Also, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi voiced his discontent with the explosion and stated: “There are not enough words in the dictionary to express disgust over an incident where children are gunned down.”

He expressed his indignation saying that it’s inhumane to attack children causing such a ‘brutal act’.

‘Such dreadful acts should have no remorse or forgiveness for those who perpetrate them,’ asserted Naqvi. ‘The monsters who toy with the lives of innocents cannot be rehabilitated.’
