AMRITSAR: A man fired at a Sikh politician and former member of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP party outside the Golden Temple on Wednesday which saw police later arrest the gunman, in a tense incident that took place at the popular complex that the scene of a killing by Sikh militants and military four years ago.

Sukhbir Singh Badal, 62, former deputy chief minister of Punjab state, escaped the blast unscathed. As Narain Singh pulled the trigger of his weapon, which was tucked in his waist, the only shot that came out hit a marble column instead of Badal as his security guards wrestled him to the ground.
